Edward was born in about 1803 in Stranraer, Wigtownshire, Scotland. He was a soldier who served in the 19th Regiment of Foot. He married Mary Hennesey who had been born in Ireland and together they had at least five children in different parts of the UK as the family presumably followed him when he was posted to different places. Two of Edwards’ sons also joined the army: Edward and (Thomas) Francis. The following chart shows Edward and Mary’s immediate descendants.

Further down the family tree, Edward’s great grandson, Charles William Sargison (1905-1987) became a colonial official and died in the parish of Smiths in Bermuda, leaving an estate worth over £100,000.
