Edward Sergesson and his descendants

Edward was born in about 1803 in Stranraer, Wigtownshire, Scotland. He was a soldier who served in the 19th Regiment of Foot. He married Mary Hennesey in 1837 in the Roman Catholic parish of Nenagh, diocese of Killaloe, in Ireland. Together they had at least five children in different parts of the UK ,as the family presumably followed him when he was posted to different places. Edward died in 1859 in Glasgow, Scotland. This is the descendant report:

Three of Edwards’ sons also joined the army: Arthur, Edward and Francis. Further down the family tree, Edward’s great grandson, Charles William Sargison (1905-1987) became a colonial official and died in the parish of Smiths in Bermuda, leaving an estate worth over £100,000. Thank you to the Stillorgan Genealogy and History project who provided further information on Edward James Sargison and his descendants.

James Sergeson (1806-1857) is another soldier who may be related to Edward. He joined the Royal Sappers and Miners in Belfast on 28 December 1825 when his occupation was described as a miner. Her served in the army for over 21 years, including in Bermuda and Novia Scotia, Canada. When he gained his military discharge in Woolwich on 12 January 1847, he was said to have defective vision and chronic rheumatism. Both his sons Edward and John became soldiers in the Royal Engineers and subsequently died in England. This is the descendant report:

Finally, a third soldier who may fit somewhere into Edward’s this tree is Thomas Francis (Frank) Sergison (1853-1902). In census records his birthplace is given as Witton Park, Durham which was known in the mid-19th century as an industrial village which attracted migrants. Frank was a Corporal in the Royal Artillery based at the Gunwharf Barracks, Portsmouth when he married Kate Amelia Ann Clarke on 2 October 1883. He gave his father’s name as Francis and that he was a house steward. Frank died in London in 1902. Extensive research has so far failed to find his father Francis. This is the descendant report:
