This family seem to stem initially from an agricultural community and then moved towards Hull where, by the 1900s, a number of were working as fishermen and in the fish trade. There are two family groups in this tree. Francis Sargison (1720-1777) lived with his family in Cottingham, where he and his wife Mary (1717-1756) had at least three children.
There is a second grouping in this part of the old East Riding of Yorkshire headed by Thomas Sergeson (1726-1807) who seem to have largely settled in Holme upon Spalding Moor.
The main surname variants in these family groups are Sargison, Sergison and Sargeson.
