This variant of Sarginson is very unusual and seems to be confined to one particular family group who all seem to be descended from William Surgison (1796-1856). He was a seaman in the Royal Navy who gave his place of birth as Hull in Yorkshire. However, he met and married his wife in Portsea, Hampshire and his family continued to live in Southern England which is why I’ve included the tree in this section of the website.
Despite a lot of research I have been unable to find a baptism record for William which leads me to believe that perhaps he altered his name when he joined the Royal Navy. His naval record suggests he was 26 when he did that which suggests he might have done other work before he joined and possibly had another family? Here is the Descendants of William Surgeson report.
While I make every effort to verify the information I include in these trees there is always the chance I have made some mistakes. If you spot any or have any further information you are willing to share with me then do please contact me.
