Sargisons of London and Surrey

There are two family groups which seem to have arrived and lived in London and Surrey headed by Robert and John Sargeson who do not seem to be directly related.

The first family group begins with Robert Sargeson (1768-1822) who married Sarah Thomas on 23 March 1800 in London. They had at least four children. The majority of family members use the surname variant Sargison in this tree. This is the Descendants of Robert Sargeson report.

There is a conundrum though with one of Robert’s sons Daniel whose baptism in London in 1801 records his birth date as 6 August 1794. There is also a Daniel Sergison born 14 August 1794 in the Sargeson Cottingham tree, where his parents are Robert Sergison (born about 1767) and Jemima Nicholson (born about 1765). Jemima’s father was called Daniel. So far, I have been unable to find out what happened to Jemima and all their children. I do wonder though if Robert left Yorkshire for London and started a new family with Sarah whose members mostly adopted the Sargison surname variant.

The second family group starts with John Sargeson (born about 1780) and the prime surname variants within it are Sargison and Sarginson. This is the Descendants of John Sargeson report. I have been unable to find a baptism record for John and it seems strange that William (1806-1880) was baptised in Rickmansworth in Hertfordshire. The records available were difficult to find and not well transcribed. However some of his descendants have been traced as shown in the report.

Whilst I make every effort to check the source records carefully, I am conscious that mistakes can creep in. Do please contact me if you have any information which can help me improve these trees.
